Practical NLP: on High Heels

March 31, 2009 by aperfectmind

The other day I was walking back from a meeting in the city. It had started to rain and coming to the pedestrian crossing I sped up to catch the green light. This elicited a cry of protest from the person walking beside me. She was wearing high heels and could not accelerate as easily as I did.

It occurred to me that this was a simple example of not being sufficiently in rapport. If I had been I would have been, metaphorically speaking, walking in her shoes and would have instinctively known better than to step it up.

Rapport is after all a connection between unconscious minds which allows us to expand our awareness and “see” and “feel” more than with just our five senses.

What is NLP?

February 2, 2009 by aperfectmind

Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP is a toolbox full of the most advanced human change techniques and processes and explains how the human mind works, how it processes and applies new information and why and how people do what they do. NLP skills allow you to understand people’s motivations and what makes them tick. NLP can be used to anchor positive emotions and high energy states which can then be recalled in challenging situations in an instant, which is particularly useful when the going gets tough and in order to stay focused and calm.

NLP has been described as the new science of personal achievement and is is a highly effective methodology based on the fact that all behaviour has a structure and that this structure can be modeled, learned and changed. As you study NLP with A Perfect Mind you will learn about your own patterns and programs, how you can change them and have more flexibility and choice in your life.

Ask the average person on the street about NLP and he’ll say, “NL..what?” But here are a few surprises…

  • NASA uses NLP to design instrument panels.
  • The National Health Service in the United Kingdom uses NLP to improve patient care.
  • Businesses like Oracle, IBM, American Express, Apple Computer, Xerox, Merrill Lynch, Mercedes Benz, BMW, and many others use NLP to improve communication, build teams, and increase productivity.

Top Athletes all around the world use it to give themselves the crucial performance edge.

A full list of who uses NLP would fill a book. At least. One thing is certain. In the last 30 years, its popularity has spread around the world.

NLP was developed in the 1970ies by John Grinder and Richard Bandler who examined what made some of the leading therapists and coaches of the time so successful and allowed them to get results that were head and shoulders above their peers. They observed closely their physiology and the language they used when working with their clients and deduced a set of rules which allowed others to model these behaviours and produce excellent results themselves. Since then NLP has developed in leaps and bounds and is used everywhere where people communicate with each other in result-oriented ways.
The human brain is like a super-huge, super-friendly computer. It “codes” your thoughts, feelings, perceptions and memories as sensory representations – images, sounds, sensations, tastes, smells – as well as words and meanings…

It then presents a selection of them to your conscious awareness. None of it is hard-wired. It’s completely software driven. And that means you can change any part of it you want just like you can change the software of a computer system to suit your needs.

How your individual brain selects representations is highly unique – no two people do it exactly the same.

The end result is, your brain’s representations create unique “maps” of the world for you.

And you use your maps for everything you do, everything you think, and everything you feel.

  • How “updated” is your map?
  • Could you benefit in making better decisions, better choices and having a clearer vision for your life?
  • Would you like to improve your health by accelerating healing and strengthening your immune system?
  • Do you need to communicate better, be more organized and have a clear direction and goals in your career?
  • Are you looking to improve your relationships and let go of past limitations?
  • Do you want unshakable self-confidence and peace of mind?

NLP shows you how to understand and model your own successes, so that you can have many more of those moments. NLP gives you the tools to dramatically improve your communication skills, heal your past, remove unwanted behaviors and habits and create the future you desire.

“NLP techniques are the best processes for creating fast and long-lasting change in your life. Many other systems are good at discovering problems but don’t give you tools for painless, fast, change.” Dr. Tad James
